There is a Crisis in America That Nobody is Taking Seriously

Austin, Texas – October, 2012 – “This could be the first generation of children in the United States that lives less than its parents.” This is the opening statement in the movie trailer for the documentary film Forks Over Knives. The film analyzes the profound claim that we can prevent and even reverse many of our common degenerative diseases simply by rejecting animal-based and processed foods, and by adopting a plant-based, whole food diet.

One need not look very far to see we are in dire need of a nutritional change in America. One in three Americans is obese, one in three will die from heart disease, and many accept the sidea that getting fat and sick are to be expected as one grows older, and that cancer or heart attack are inevitable. This false idea about our health outcomes costs Americans $1 Trillion annually in healthcare expenses to treat diseases that many experts say need not ever exist.

Indeed there is a crisis in America and we simply can’t afford the expenses associated with poor diet decisions. The solution, according to Dr. T. Colin Campbell, one of the leading Nutritional Scientists in the country, is the cessation of consumption of animal-based and processed foods, which have been clinically associated with the increase in heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other debilitating diseases. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a former lead surgeon at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic, and world specialist on heart disease, supports Dr. Campbell’s claims that a plant-based diet protects against disease, whereas an animal-based diet promotes disease. This is primarily because plant foods contain key nutrient components that fight off disease such as antioxidants and fiber, whereas animal-based foods contain properties that contribute to disease such as dietary cholesterol.

The two doctors are the stars of Forks Over Knives, which has a mission to get America talking about these important issues that impact all of us, and inspire Americans to take this health crisis seriously.
