  1. It is well-nigh impossible to prove the existence (or lack thereof) of a higher power. It's just as easy to prove that a dragon lives in my ass. Therefore, I agree with the folks who are mocking the "God makes me vegan" theory. However, religion certainly does exist. Judaism is the religion i know best (since I'm on that team), and the principles it teaches certainly leads one to vegetarianism. The laws of kashrut (kosher) are designed to reduce the suffering of animals. The principles that religions espouse -- justice, charity, kindness, mercy -- almost force one to become veggie. Religion and vegetarianism are not only compatible, they have actual synergy.
  2. http://www.goveg.com/jsfkosher.asp There's a (relatively) big movement in judaism towards vegetarianism. PETA just sent me a 30 page pamphlet about it . . . for free.
  3. Also -- crossfit has some great challenges that might be worth doing
  4. someone asked why Iran would want to nuke Israel in the 1st place-- well, I think it's a dumb idea, too, but I wasn't a big fan of 9/11, either. Islamists don't like a Jewis state, nor are they fans of western democracy. I don't think it's about Western aggression (although the current Iraq war is an utter debacle and certainly hasn't helped our credibility in the world). I agree with the previous contention that America's use of atomic bombs actually saved lives. But, sadly, the record suggests that restraint would not have worked. The Japanese military ferociously resisted surrender even after two atomic bombings on major cities, even after Soviet entry into the war, even when it expected another atomic bomb — on Tokyo. I grabbed that from CNN. Anyway, strong debate. I did not expect to find this type of argument on this site and I'm happy to see it.

  6. Howdy. I think this is a very interesting topic for discussion. It's a little different when a Western democracy has nukes (Israel) as opposed to an extremist theocracy which publicly supports terrorist groups (Iran). Also, due to their beliefs about the afterlife, certain muslim clerics seem to think that nuking israel would be a worthwhile tradeoff. They won't be scared off by our reprisals. TEHRAN 14 Dec. (IPS) One of Iran’s most influential ruling cleric called Friday on the Muslim states to use nuclear weapon against Israel, assuring them that while such an attack would annihilate Israel, it would cost them "damages only".

  8. weight can be misleading, especially if you're lifting. You can gain weight by adding muscle and losing fat. Body fat comp is a much better measurement of health . . . I think you should add a BFC to your stats. Otherwise, it's a great idea, and I"m going to copy it onto my new log.
  9. I was on the veggie team for a long time (5 years), got traded for a year, but jumped back on after watching a PETA video on Jewish vegetarianism. I had also decided to drastically decrease my workouts (aka become a lazy bastard), so it's going to take some time to put all the pieces back together. I'm very happy to see that y'all are out there in the world, lifting stuff and running around and eating tofu. It's very inspiring.
  10. howdy. Does anyone have any thoughts/data on actual protein percentages? people always talk about high protein, medium protein . . . how does that translate into grams per pound of bodyweight? My goal is to reach a bodyfat composition of about 5% with bodyweight of about 170.
  11. Howdy. I was veggie for over 5 years, fell off the wagon for a year, but have now left the dark side. I also kind of forgot to work out, so now I've got to put myself back together. I plan to compete in various competitions (boxing, Brazilian ju-jitsu, races, weightlifting) within 2 years. I think an online journal will keep me in line and help me connect with fellow travelers who like to lift heavy stuff but aren't mean to chickens. Workout plan monday: full body lift Tuesday: Cardio (fight) Wednesday: Recovery -- yoga Thursday: Lift Friday: short cardio Saturday: Full body lift & fight (maybe fight friday) Sunday: Recover
