  1. Wow, I've actually wondered about this just to myself before. Nice post. Now we need a link on how to be a vegan bodybuilder in jail! lol. It's going to be hard to maintain mass in jail, and that is a place where you will need it most...
  2. For weight loss I would advise you to eat breakfast AFTER your morning cardio sessions, as your body is still in a catabolic state and while running your body will start to use more of your fat/muscle tissue for energy. You sound pretty physically active, so good job on that, as long as you're following a calorie restrictive diet I think you will do well losing weight. I don't think protein powders are necessarily for weight lost. If you want to gain muscle, I would suggest doing it before/after shedding the excess fat. To gain muscle you need to consume more calories than you burn - so you won't lose any weight this way.

  4. Hey, if you're still looking for athletes I'd possibly be interested depending on what you are looking for. I talked to the Mercy for Animals organization at a local vegetarian festival where I live and even offered to volunteer for them. I shot you an email.
  5. I trained a couple months at Planet Fitness because some buddies from work begged me to come train with them after work (we work nights..) and so I did. It wasn't the best experience. There was a group of 3 guys, one big guy and his two smaller buddies (I assume the big dude was their brofessor) that would rub crisco on their chest in the locker room. Another lady fell asleep on a bench a couple times.
  6. Dude I love your shirt... Arms are looking awesome by the way.
  7. Is there any Raw Vegan Bodybuilders around here? I was thinking about going raw vegan for a while now, and was working there before I decided I wanted to build muscle, which caused me to start eating a lot of cooked foods and soy. I'd like to start working there again, however, I'd still like to build muscle (and possibly get very cut in the process). I'd like to talk to a raw vegan about nutrition. For example, I heard Nick Stern (one of the guy's behind Sunwarrior protein) say he gets the same results from 50-100 grams of protein a day as guys get from 400 grams a day simply by eating only raw foods. Is there any truth to this? He was pretty big, but I've always noticed different things work for different people. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
  8. Thanks a bunch, I am going to incorporate this into my warmup on Fridays when I do arms... I will let you know how it goes.
  9. No, no pain at all when I use the dumbell. What kinds of forearm stretches and exercises? Maybe I will give those a try. I can deal with the pain if I have to, I just don't want to cause any permanent or lasting damage to my arm.
  10. I know what you mean by the standing concentration curls, I do not think this is entirely the same issue though. From what is sounds like your forearms start to hurt AS you're doing the curls, this is not an issue for me. It is when I set the bar down and let go, it is usually a sharper type pain that shoots its way up my forearms and can leave them a little sore.
  11. Does anyone else have this problem? Every time I use the barbell to curl I get a bad pain in my forearm and I have to let it go slowly as that is when it really kicks in. I've read that it could be to muscle cramps and lack of potassium but I do not think that is the case because I am a banana maniac. I've also read it coul dbe due to form but no matter how I adjust my arms it comes back. It's a shame cause I really want to up my biceps, and I feel the best results are when I switch between different bicep exercises. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions? Advice?
  12. Actually just got my black belt like a month ago, so I am really trying not to lose too much flexibility now. I think I'll give some lifting with my legs a try tomorrow, something pretty easy just to start off with and get my legs use to lifting again. Low reps and high weights of course.
  13. Well, as I have stated in my intro I am a Martial Arts guy. Taekwondo right now to be exact. I don't have any competitions coming up in the near future so I am not too concerned with the short term effects. Obviously I understand after starting a new leg routine my legs will be sore and stiff, it is something I will have to suck for awhile while training and practicing. However, what I am worried about is the long term effects of building mass around the legs... I definitely can't afford to hurt my quickness and flexibility.. especially in a kicking art. Anyone have any experiences with that? Perhaps others involved in Martial Arts? I don't want to get big and cut in my upper body and end up with skinnier looking legs, and there is obviously some mass building potential down there, but at the same time I can't compromise speed and flexibility. I want to see what others think BEFORE I start doing any leg routines.
  14. You're right, I feel very lucky to live in a part of the world where both vegan supplements and things like Almond Milk are very cheap to acquire. It can't be any worse than the post-workout creatine I started taking! It is supposed to be blue raspberry flavored, but tastes like liquid cotton candy and cough medicine. I have to hold my nose when I drink the 8oz. On a side note, what is really tasty is if you take a vega protein bar and dip each bite in all natural crunchy peanut butter. Mmm. Being a vegan is tasty.
  15. Anyone do anything special with their protein powders? Recently what I've been doing with the Sunwarrior protein is one scoop of chocolate and vanilla (1ea), a spoonful of peanut butter, a frozen banana, and almond milk and making a morning smoothie with all that. It's really good tasting but drinking it every morning does get a bit old (and time consuming when you have a shitty blender). I use vega too, and think it'd be great to somehow fit it into something with a little extra nutrients... all the flavors taste gross to me in water by the way, but I love putting them in almond milk.
