  1. I'm not sure about the vegan restaurant scene, though I know there is one. There are a lot of options for vegetarians and lots of good places to eat in general here. Atlanta is the most progressive of the large southern cities, but there tends to be more acceptance of diversity in lifestyles in the metro area than there is further out in the country. Access to vegan/vegetarian resources will depend on where you're living.
  2. Thanks for the suggestions! I wonder if I can do the plank against the wall. My weight is about 280 right now and I have a hard time supporting my weight with my upper body. My legs are really strong from carrying around 500 pounds for years, but the arms need work The squats with the chair are definitely doable....I can't do them without a chair right now because of previous knee injuries, but I look forward to gettting to a place where I can do deeper squats and accomplish them without a chair! Thanks so much for responding to my post, you're the first person to do so here
  3. It's good to see another gastric bypass person on here. I am transitioning to veganism.....do you find you have a hard time meeting your protein requirements? I know it's already a touchy subject in the world of veganism, but I've been worried about it in light of the bypass.
  4. I'm not going to be posting diet on here until I'm on board with the vegan changes. Everything between then and now will frustrate me to look at it later. Been training for two months now Starting weight= not sure, will check at gym tomorrow 6/16/14- 40 minutes of slow pace dog walking, 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous treadmill walking 6/17/14- 40 minutes of dog walking, Strength training= 3 sets, 12 reps each Arm extension 30 lbs Arm curls 30 lbs Chest press 30 lbs Row 40 lbs Pulldowns 40 lbs Flys 30 lbs Rear delts 20 lbs Back extension 50 lbs Leg curl 40 lbs Leg extension 40 lbs Leg press 110 lbs Abduction 60 lbs Adduction 60 lbs Crunch 45 lbs
  5. Hi guys, glad to be here. I am a 41 yr old woman from the Atlanta area. Currently I am a morbidly obese omnivore. I am ready for all of that to change. I have been working out for about 2 months now and am really enjoying it. I am very confused about all the conflicting information about how to strength train, but have decided to not be so uptight about it and listen to my body. Right now I'm doing 2, full body work outs per week, on Tuesday and Friday. Cardio the other week days. I do high reps, low weight on Tuesday and low reps, high weight on Friday to give some variety. I am on a path to becoming vegan. I have been vegatarian in the past, but never in a healthy way. I ate a lot of cheese, convenience foods, etx. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and had lost 270 pounds at one point, but have put 50 back on. My concern about protein intake has kept me from going vegan up till this point, but I can't ignore this voice that keeps telling me I have to give it a shot. I am interested in veganism both for health reasons (as cited in Forks over Knives, Food Matters, etx) and for ethical reasons. I am not going to throw away the food I have in my house now, I can't afford to. But as I buy new groceries, I will be slowly increasing my vegan recipes, dishes and staples. I look forward to talking to some of y'all and sharing this journey! Kelle
