DebbieBaldauf
Hey everyone. I just have a question for all the more veteran runners/lifters out there. I have to say, I consider myself a pretty seasoned runner. I've trained for and run two half-marathons, and I include regular running as part of a cardio regimen (3 to 4 miles a couple of times a week) ... plus, being a healthy adult, I wouldn't think that falling would be an issue. However, this morning at the gym, it was! I bit the dust twice on the track, sprawling across the lanes with very little grace. A third time, I tripped, but was able to catch myself. Then, I tripped twice (no fall this time, thankfully) while walking my dog. It felt like the tops of my toes would drag, and get caught up on the track, causing the spill. Granted, my ego was bruised more than anything else, but I'm a bit concerned. Could the new weight training regimen I'm doing be changing my form, causing me to place my feet differently? Or is it the change in diet? I've been tracking and I get the recommended gram of protein per kg of bodyweight per day (72g for me) , and I'm consuming about 1600 cals a day, so I don't think I'm shorting myself calorie-wise. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. It really has be a bit freaked out, and afraid that I'm going to end up injuring myself ... Thanks! vegan_rossco
This may sound really stupid and obvious but I'm just making sure.. Have you changed your running shoes at all? Other than that it could be psychological, eg. The first time you tripped was a fluke but it made you self concious about not tripping which in turn caused you to trip.Hope it all works out anyway, I can't imagine weight training would cause this
DebbieBaldauf
Hi Ross! I haven't changed my shoes at all lately ... I have two pair that I switch off between ... one is an older pair, and one's a newer pair. I was wearing the older pair this morning. Now that you mention it, I wouldn't put it past being a psychological thing. My brain is horrible about messing with me. And I was totally thinking about "not falling" the rest of the time I was running ... to the point where I stopped and walked a couple of times ... which I never do! The only other thing I can think is that perhaps my legs were fatigued from my workout yesterday ... but aside from cardio, yesterday was an upper body training day. Perhaps I just need time to adjust to all this newness .... changing a diet and fitness plan all within the same month might do that to a person. Thanks for the input! Mini Forklift
I think that the second fall was just a bit of bad luck, possibly because you were still running through the first fall in your head! As for the trips, well I quite often get days where I catch the back of my ankles. Maybe it's all just happened at once for some weird reason ?! I would agree with Ross that I wouldn't think it would be the weight training. Has it happened any other times since you posted this a month ago? All the best MF.
